Growing up With Film
I have always been surrounded by film. Whether it was movies, television, or making my own shorts; there has never been a developmental part of my life that film was not involved in. When i was younger (in the sense of being 7-10) I did commercial acting And modeling so i got to see a lot of behind the scenes of filmmaking at a younger age. The way the “love of film” story goes is that my brother (Max) loved the idea of teaching me (the younger sibling) new tricks and skills. He would teach me math, science, and eventually film. He began to realize the only “class” of his I truly listened to was his film classes. He started with teaching me how to set up a camera and my love took off from there. I began helping in film in every way possible. In lower school I did the news and the TV elective, in middle school I joined film class and made content for whoever needed, and in high school I continue to make short films and content for the school and I am an avid part of my school’s arts department. I also spent time during the summer working for a photographer and creating behind the scenes videos for her clients. Film has been with me as young as seven and my love for it has only grown throughout the years.
My Involvement and Achievements
My involvement has definitely increased throughout the years. I am currently am three year film club president at my school and have also been the public relations for my theatre troupe. The important part about me being public relations is that I made it my mission to bring film into the media accounts I was running. I have also competed and placed in many films festivals and have won some awards at my school’s achievement celebrations. I was able to go out to LA for the summer and make short films along with meeting and working with some amazing and talented people. I currently run my own personal account but also a film account where I post my short films and photography. I have recently gotten into editorial type photography along with 35mm film photography. Lastly, and recently, I was chosen to be a producer in an ASFI short film. It was an incredible experience and I have enjoyed meeting others who share this love for cinema. I am always pushing myself to do more but by writing stuff like this I really am proud of what I have accomplished and I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am, however, I know this is what I want to do.
Film and its importance
The reason I love film is because the ability it has to be a creative voice. It’s a way to showcase what you are thinking, feeling, or even dreaming...in a visually appealing way! It gives life to characters and stories that you can share with those you love. Videos are also a way to capture events in life and keep them forever. Film is important because it has the ability to help, heal, and raise awareness. It also has so many sections within it such as screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, producing, and so much more. It’s amazing how people of all different walks of life are able to work together to create one amazing piece of art for others to view. I love film because it has helped me, personally, throughout my life, find where I belong and where I fit in. It helped me find my voice. If I would advise anything to anyone reading it would be.... to not be scared in finding your voice ... and to find others who share the same passion as you in order to better each other...lastly, don’t forget to ask yourself if you love what you are doing because if you don’t truly love it...why do it?
